About Generali Switzerland
Generali Switzerland is a subsidiary of the global Generali Group, founded in 1831, and one of the country’s leading insurance providers — offering life, health, property, and business insurance solutions.
Starting position
In the mid-2000s, new EU directives expanded anti-money laundering obligations. Generali needed to automate name screening while maintaining high accuracy to reduce false positives — and later, as digital payments volumes grew, to screen counterparties instantly before payment execution.
Solution
Phase one: Name Screening foundation (2007–present)
Generali deployed DetectX® as a SaaS platform to screen individuals and entities against international sanctions lists (EU, UN, OFAC) and internal watchlists (Generali Blacklisted, GAV lists). DetectX® features include fuzzy string matching, configurable similarity scoring, and multilingual natural language processing.
Phase two: Real-time Transaction Filter (2024–present)
By 2024, Generali integrated DetectX® Transaction Filter into its payment infrastructure to screen counterparties instantly before payment execution. The system now handles over 27 million name checks annually, up to 5,000 daily claims screened, 5 requests per second at full load, and capacity for 2.7 million high-priority screenings per year — supporting hundreds of concurrent requests during peak periods.
Capabilities deployed
- AI-powered name screening with fuzzy matching and natural language processing
- Batch and real-time screening across multiple data sources
- Internal watchlist enforcement (Generali Blacklist, GAV list)
- Claims disbursement control
- Vendor and third-party payment screening
- Alert management and investigation workflows
Result
Full regulatory alignment with European and global standards; reduced false positives and faster investigations; a scalable platform that handles transaction volume spikes; transparent, auditable screening records; and proactive fraud and sanctions-breach prevention.
